Orchid Health Offers COVID-19 Booster to FRSD Students

Here is everything Fern Ridge students need to know about getting a booster shot from the Orchid Health Clinic on campus.

What is a booster?

A booster is an extra dose of a vaccine after receiving the original dose. Given that some vaccine’s immunity weakens over time, a booster shot is given to boost and remind the immune system of the virus it is supposed to protect recipients from.

If you received the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine:

Who should get a booster?

  • Anyone 12 or older

When should you get the booster?

  • At least 5 months after getting your primary vaccine series

Which booster can you get?

  • Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna are preferred in most cases
  • Anyone 12-17 can only get the Pfizer-BioNTech

If you received the Moderna vaccine:

Who should get a booster?

  • Anyone 18 or older

When should you get the booster?

  • At least 5 months after getting your primary vaccine series

Which booster can you get?

  • Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna are preferred in most cases

If you received the Johnson & Johnson’s Janssen vaccine:

Who should get a booster?

  • Anyone 18 or older

When should you get the booster?

  • At least 2 months after getting your primary vaccine series

Which booster can you get?

  • Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna are preferred in most cases

Do you need a parent’s permission?

Oregon minors 15 years and older do not need a parent’s permission to receive a vaccine. Vaccinations are kept confidential if that is what students prefer.

Possible Symptoms?

Symptoms are the same as the initial vaccine which include lethargy, muscle aches, fatigue, etc.

Costs?

Students in the Fern Ridge School District will not be charged for the booster. Since Orchid Health is a school-based health clinic, they are able to provide certain services without any out of pocket costs to FRSD students. When making an appointment, students will need to tell Orchid Health that they are a part of the Fern Ridge School District, so they can make sure students are entered properly into the computer.
