Tuesday was an exciting but also emotional night for the Falcons’ varsity volleyball players when the team’s four seniors — Kassidy Roe, Maddi Roe, Jessica Janeczko and Lyndsey Wilson — were honored for senior night.

After the team warmed up, the seniors were escorted one by one by their families onto the court, where they were joined by teammates and coaches Greg Haffner and Paul Ossowski.

Their teammates presented each senior with a team gift: a bag filled with fun surprises and notes from each JV and varsity player. Posters also were hung on the wall with the players’ positions and senior pictures.

Short speeches written by each of the seniors were read aloud, including the players’ reflections about how the season went, advice to underclassmen, and what they plan to do in the future. The seniors thanked their parents, coaches and teammates for their support and memories.

In celebration for senior night, the Elmira High School pep band performed. There was also a big student section to cheer on the seniors and their teammates.

The Falcons played tough against Cottage Grove but lost 0-3.

Despite the loss, the seniors had some great stats. Janeczko had six kills, six digs, a block and one ace. Kassidy Roe, who had suffered a minor injury and returned to the lineup in time for senior night, had a dig, an assist and one ace. Wilson ended the game with two kills.

The Lady Falcons will play their last home game this Tuesday, Oct. 19, at 6:45 p.m. against Marshfield.
