Elmira Track and Field Team Makes Big Strides at Meet

The Elmira High School track and field team competed Wednesday in a meet at Sheldon that also included Springfield and Thurston high schools.

More than a third of Elmira’s athletes set personal records at the meet, and a few athletes won their events.

Sophomore Iris Frome won the 800 meters, junior Alyssa Johnson won the 1,500-meter and 3,000-meter races, junior Ashlyn Turnbo won the pole vault, junior Jacob Janeczko won the shot put,
sophomore Trentyn Herbert won the discus, and senior Bayden Wanaisie won the triple jump.

The boys and girls relay teams both earned second place.

The largest personal record was set by junior Tryston Rogers, who PRed by 12 feet, throwing 136 feet in the javelin.
