Falcon Track and Field Athletes Head to Districts

The Falcon track and field team is headed to the 3A Special District 1 Championships after a long season with many improvements.
The meet will be held Thursday and Friday at Sutherlin High School.
The senior sprinters who qualified are Ava Greene and Kharsin Vanhtha with juniors Petra Archer, Shavelle Cook, Marley Arient, Jocelyn Foltz, Kadence Marvin, Quinn Sullivan and Almos Szenasi also qualifying.
Qualifying sophomore sprinters are Chase Anderson and Trayvn DuMont. Ninth-graders Keira Chambers, Colemin Renville, Levi Ruby, Alaura Shaw and Victoria Shoemaker also qualified.
DuMont said he is ready to compete at districts and hopes to get a top time.
“I feel good about districts, and I know that if I run really well I can medal and maybe even get to state,” DuMont said.
The long-distance team for EHS consists of seniors Madi Jerabek and Hannah Yaskovic, junior Thaddius Mason, and ninth-graders Landon Lay, Wyatt Sullivan, and Henry Waits.
Yaskovic said she is looking to make the most of her last district meet.
“I just want to have fun at the meet and try to PR,” Yaskovic said. “I know that it will be a good time no matter how I do, and I hope I can medal.”
The qualifying throwers include seniors Spencer Stone and Marvin Hambrick, and juniors Gracie Bolin, Penelope Cordon, Almos Szenasi and Kieran Waldecker.
Other qualifiers include sophomore Louis Carter, and ninth-graders Kalya Carter, Amorabelle Geving and Johnathon Richa.
Richa said he is looking forward to his first district meet.
“I’m just hoping to get a PR I don’t think I can medal or anything, but it will help to have experience for future years,” the thrower said.
The jumps squad is made of seniors Marvin Hambrick and Rylee Rice, juniors Ella Clark, Ezra Dickinson, Korbin Graham, Johanna Leuthold, Kaedence Marvin and Memphis Morgan, sophomores Liam Penkauskas, Baya Reinhart and Bronsin Williams, and ninth-graders Karden Beach and Ella Carney.
Rice is prepared for her final high school district meet.
“I really hope that I can be district champ for high jump again, but I’m mainly focused on getting back to state and placing well at that,” the senior said.
The top two from each event (plus anyone who hits the qualifying marks) will move onto state at Hayward Field on May 28-30.
