Elmira High School students and staff were awarded by the Rotary Club and the Fern Ridge School District this spring.
The Rotary Club’s Citizen of the Month award is given to three students chosen by teachers, and is awarded at a different school each month. This April, seniors Keelan Hacker, Hannah Humphrey and Jude Carman were the Rotary Club’s Citizens of the Month for Elmira.
Teachers focused on students who went out of their way to do things that wouldn’t otherwise be rewarded.
The award ceremony for these students will take place on Thursday at the Eugene Airport.
The Fern Ridge School District also gave out awards this spring to both students and staff during the Distinguished Service Awards event that was hosted by the Veneta-Fern Ridge Chamber of Commerce.
Elmira Elementary instructional assistant Robbie Wolfe-Powell won the Classified Employee of the Year award.
EHS English and Journalism teacher Michelle Nelson was recognized as the Twinkle A. Morton Educator of the Year.
The District Office Employee of the Year was Paul Lambert, the district’s IT director.
Volunteer of the Year was given to Mark Boren who has volunteered at many sporting, fundraising and school spirit events throughout the year. He is also a Fern Ridge school board member.
Many EHS students were recognized as well.
Senior Mele Turtura won the Community Builder award as the senior class president.
The Future First Citizen award was given to Fernanda Valle-Arvizu.
The student named Emerging Future First Citizen was junior Jake VanDamme.
The student recipients were voted for by EHS teachers, while the staff members receiving the awards were voted for on a district-level by faculty and administrators across the Fern Ridge School District.
