The Elmira varsity girls basketball team lost in a nail-biter. The girls kept it close the whole game, losing 49-50.

Junior Layla Burgess led the team in scoring with 13 points and one assist. Senior Iris Frome had 10 points and one assist, and sophomore Ava Greene had eight points and one assist.

Burgess was asked by Falcon News about her thoughts on the game.

“It was a really good game. We just have to be smarter about protecting the ball,” Burgess said. “It was a close game, and I think all the girls played really hard.”

The Elmira varsity boys basketball team had a rough game, losing 42-64 against Creswell.

Leading the team was junior Kyler Colwell with 12 points and three assists. Sophomore Carsen Adams had 10 points and three assists, and senior Quinton Buckland had seven points and seven rebounds.

Buckland had a few things to say after the tough loss.

“We’re gonna fix our mistakes and come back better for our next game,” Buckland said.

The Falcons’ next home game is Jan. 25 against Siuslaw. The varsity girls play at 6 p.m., and the varsity boys play at 7:30 p.m.
