Two local high school students, senior Lillian Ossowski and junior William Uphold, won the Veneta Celebration Run held Sept. 24 to raise money for city parks.

The fun run included a 5k, a 10k and a kids Dilly Dash.

“It was really fun,” Ossowski said. “A lot of people showed up to celebrate and show support.

“I was excited at the start line. People were smiling and cheering. There were people to tell us where to go, and snacks and water were provided. The police also helped block the roads off so the cars don’t run them over.”

Uphold said it was exciting arriving at the celebration run.

“They had lovely people there, and they had a funny Dilly Dash for the little kids where they had an ice cream cone run across the finish line,” he said. “As far as during the race, it was very interesting and fun to run throughout Veneta and see almost all of the main parts of the town. It was very exciting running past the Veneta park/pool then running back up to Bolton Hill.

“Seeing the finish line and hearing the announcer saying, ‘And here comes our first 5k runner’ was such a great feeling.

“Overall it was an amazing experience and I hope that I can do it again next year!”
