Elmira Track Team Wins Big at Marshfield

On Tuesday, May 3rd the Elmira track and field team set off on a two hour bus ride to the Steve Prefontaine Track at Marshfield High School in Coos Bay for what would be the last meet for Junior Varsity athletes.

After the team arrived at 3 p.m., field events began at 4 p.m. and running events started at 5 p.m. 

Elmira took first place in many events. Senior Gavyn Laing took first in the 200m, sophomore Iris Frome in the 400m, and 9th grader Jude Carman in 3000m with a personal record (PR) of 10 minutes and 40 seconds. Senior Claire Head took first in the 100m hurdles with a PR of 18.6 seconds.

Gavyn Laing, Isaiah Wilson, Desmond Wilson, and Tanner Hunt brought home first in the 4×100 with a PR of 45.45  seconds. Senior Bayden Wanaisie took first in long jump with a PR of 19 feet 3.5 inches and junior Ashlyn Turnbo, shooting for the school record, took first in pole vault with a PR of 9 feet flat.

With only 9th grader Olivia Fatooh, senior Cosette Fowler, and junior Alyssa Johnson participating in the 3000m, junior Alyssa Johnson took first place.

Senior Joey Meyer participated for the first time in the 4×100 with Grey Stirling, Evan Booth, and Nio Turtura.
