Elmira High School students on Saturday attended the school’s first prom since the 2019-20 year because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

With a “Garden Gala” theme, the prom was attended by seniors and juniors, as well as sophomores with the invitation of an upperclassmen. Ninth-graders could not attend.

Students in leadership announced the Prom Court during the morning announcements the Monday before the dance.

The Class of 2022 saw four of its members ascend to court, while the junior class had two. The seniors were Cosette Fowler, Hunter Stockinger, Rylan St. Germain and Riley Peeler. The junior royalty were Kelly Torres and Ashlyn Turnbo.

The high court winners — Fowler and Stockinger — were crowned at the dance.

There were roughly 130 students at the prom. They got to enjoy catering paid for by leadership, and a favorite were the lemon meringue hand pies, which were almost gone by the end of the night.

There also were spirit days during the week leading up to prom, including Camo Day on Monday, Bucket Hat Day on Tuesday, Tie-Dye Day on Wednesday, Adam Sandler Day on Thursday and Farmer Day on Friday.
