The end of spring signals the graduation season for the class of 2025. With that, there are a few key dates and details that Elmira High School students and families need to know for the nearing end of the year.
The EHS Awards Night will take place on Wednesday at 6 p.m. in the main gym. Various EHS students will be awarded for academic and athletic success throughout the school year. Students of all grade levels will be awarded, not only seniors. Winners of local scholarships will also be announced.
Walking practice for seniors will be on Wednesday and Thursday. Seniors should arrive before 9:30 a.m. and will be given their silk stoles. Additionally, transcript request forms will be available for students who have not yet filled one out.
It is crucially important that seniors do not iron their graduation gowns to remove wrinkles, as their gowns will melt and shrink. Instead, it is recommended that seniors hang their gowns as soon as possible before graduation to allow time for the wrinkles to get out naturally.
The EHS graduation ceremony will be held next Friday in the main gym. Doors will open at 6 p.m. and will begin at 7.
EHS asks that families refrain from bringing graduation balloons to the ceremony as it may block other families’ views. Instead, save balloons for after the event has concluded.
Students who have not finished their online classes required to graduate by Friday, May 30 will not be able to walk at graduation, although they will receive their diploma if they finish them before the end of summer. Students who have pending fees to the school will not be able to receive their diploma until they pay back those fees, but they can still walk at the ceremony.
Seniors are allowed to decorate their caps so long as any modifications are school appropriate and do not block parents’ view of students behind them. EHS principal Cyd Vandercar asks that all students run their ideas for decoration past her before they are made.
The last official EHS event for seniors will be grad night the day after graduation. It will take place on June 7. Students are expected to arrive at EHS between 7 p.m. and 8, during which seniors will eat and have fun with a variety of activities provided at the school.
At 8, students will be bussed to the University of Oregon Recreation Center where they will be able to swim, rock climb and engage in a number of other activities. Students will be bussed back to EHS at 3 a.m.
