Donny Hartley on Super Bowl LVIII: ‘Chiefs to Win 31-28 in OT’

The anticipation is heavy as the Kansas City Chiefs face-off against the San Francisco 49ers in Las Vegas on Sunday for Super Bowl LVIII.

Kansas City has been looking strong this decade, punching their ticket to their 3rd Super Bowl in 5 years and winning their 4th AFC Championship game in 6 years with the most recent win against the Baltimore Ravens.

The 49ers shouldn’t be under looked as they are constantly in playoff contention. San Francisco is looking to win their franchise’s 6th ever Super Bowl, tying the Pittsburgh Steelers and the New England Patriots for most franchise Super Bowls.

Completed in 2020, the Super Bowl will be hosted in Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada. This will be the stadium’s first Super Bowl, making it one of the youngest to ever host the championship.

Sunday’s game has potential to be an instant classic as Kansas City has the #2 rated defense in the league as opposed to San Francisco’s #2 rated offense.

The 49ers have a chance to make history, as starting quarterback Brock Purdy and 2022’s Mr. Irrelevant (final pick in the NFL draft), could lead them to a Super Bowl win, only the second ever by a Mr. Irrelevant, and first ever from a quarterback.

The Chiefs are led by their six-year starter, and potential future Hall of Fame quarterback, Patrick Mahomes. This will be his fourth Super Bowl appearance in five years and a win would make him one of the few quarterbacks to ever have back-to-back championship wins.

These two teams have some recent history as well. They played each other in Super Bowl LIV in 2020. The match-up saw the Chiefs beating the Jimmy Garoppolo-led Niners 31 – 20 after Mahomes led a stunning fourth quarter comeback of 21 points to seal the win.

This could very well be a close game and could possibly even enter overtime, so with that being said, I have the Chiefs to win 31-28 in OT.
