Senior Pranks and Spirit Week in Germany

I’m a foreign exchange student from Germany.

The spirit week and the senior pranks are huge there. The seniors throw parties during school and have dance battles. They also dress up in weird but funny costumes and make chaos in school.

The spirit week takes place in April, the week before spring break starts. Only seniors are allowed to dress up and the spirit week is only once a year.

The students in Germany take the spirit week more seriously than the people at American high schools, since they only have one spirit week in their school career. They plan their outfits for weeks or even months and the themes can be verrückt (pretty crazy).

The final day of the spirit week is when the real chaos begins. The seniors spend the night before the senior pranks in the school to barricade and ravage the whole school, including the campus and even the school office.

They barricade the school to prevent students from entering. They go to the extent of duct taping the doors, placing hay bales in front of the school doors, blowing whistles, and dumping or shooting water at the students.

Once the students and the teachers make it into the school, the classrooms are torn apart, chairs are nowhere to be found, and you can hardly walk through the halls due to the floods of balloons.

After class begins, the pranks continue as the seniors kidnap students by taping them to chairs and dragging them out of the classrooms. However, every year the senior pranks are different and differ from school to school.
