Elmira High School’s Drama Club is holding its second annual Winter Showcase.

The Winter Showcase, which features talents such as singing, dancing and skits, will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday, Jan. 5-6 in the EHS auditorium. It had been planned for Dec. 13-14 but was postponed because of student illnesses and absences. The doors open at 6 p.m. Admission is $5, and donations are welcome.

After a 10-year hiatus, the Drama Club returned last year with its first show being the Winter Showcase. To watch a video of it, visit: 2021 EHS Winter Showcase.

Social studies teacher DesiRae Wright-Rendon and English teacher Michelle Nelson are co-advisors for the club.

Falcon News contacted Mrs. Wright-Rendon and asked questions about what the Winter Showcase is and what talents are being showcased.

Question: What is the Winter Showcase?

Answer: “Winter Showcase is an opportunity for Drama Club members to present an act that showcases their individual talents.”

Q: What is the purpose of the Showcase?

A: “The purpose of Winter Showcase is to allow Drama Club members to have more experience on stage before our larger spring production. It is also a fundraiser to help bring in money to cover the costs of costumes, sets, scripts and other expenses that will come up with our spring production.”

Q: What’s the most exciting part about the Winter Showcase?

A: “I think the most exciting part of the Winter Showcase is being able to see students express themselves in a variety of talents. Students have the opportunity to be creative and create their own skills, or pay homage to a movie or play that they like, or choose a song or poem that resonates with them. We have the opportunity to see students share something special to them that they can take pride in producing on their own.”

Q: What are the talents getting showcased?

A: “This year we have a lot of musical acts, from sax and piano solos to singing solos and groups. We have a couple skits in the mix as well.”

Q: Is there anything else readers should know about this?

A: “This is a great way to see the talent that the Drama Club has to offer and a wonderful opportunity to support us if plays are maybe not your thing. Last year, we had a full house of support, and many people expressed to us that they wished we had another showing, so we added another night this year! We’re really hoping people come out to support these students and this club. We’re only in our second year and really appreciate people coming out to our performances and encouraging us.”
