The Elmira varsity volleyball team went home with a loss to the La Pine Hawks last Friday, despite a save off the basketball hoop by senior Gracie Storey.

The first set ended in 25-17, the second in 25-15 and the final set in 25-13. All three sets went to the Hawks.

The Falcons’ leaders in stats for the night were sophomore Jayden Breaux, an outside hitter who had nine kills, and junior Lillian Ossowski, a setter who led in both digs with 5 and 8 assists. Storey, a middle blocker, led in blocks, along with sophomore Josey Robbins, another setter. Both players had two blocks. Robbins also had the only ace for the Falcons against the Hawks.

The JV team had their game cut short in the start of their second set to allow the varsity game to start on time. The first set ended 25-22 with the Hawks taking the win. The second set ended 5-8, with the Falcons finishing on top. The teams hope to get a rematch and see who the official winner would be.

The Elmira JV2 volleyball team had their first game and first win against the Hawks. The final set scores and stats were unavailable, but based on the players’ response after the game, it was a strong win and a well matched game.

While the JV and varsity teams didn’t take home a win, both teams fought for every point.

“I’m very proud of our girls, for working hard and never giving up,” EHS volleyball head coach Tessa Slager said.
