Senior Shark Zhao Wins Fern Ridge Rotary Speech Contest

Several Elmira High School students brought home big bucks after competing recently in two Rotary speech contests.

Senior Shark Zhao took first place in the Fern Ridge Rotary speech contest, earning $100. He will go on to compete for $3,500 in Corvallis in April.

Other students who placed in that contest were junior Lucy Mitchem, who placed second and won $75, and junior Andrew Johnson, who took third place and won $50.

In the Airport Rotary speech contest, junior Rachel Matthews took third place, winning $150, and ninth-grader Jude Carmen placed fourth, earning $100.
