North Eugene High School held a dance competition May 20 and 21. Saturday saw the performances of dancers ten years of age and younger. Sunday held the competitions for those eleven and older.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Elmira juniors Madison Buckley and Gwen Scadlock, along with ninth-graders Alyssa Woolcott and Jocelyn St. Germain danced for the West Valley Dance Studio in the weekend competition. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The dances were choreographed by Brittney Deptuch, the owner and director of West Valley Dance studio. The studio received two judge awards for the performances.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Junior Gwen Scadlock<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Question: How did you feel going into the competition? <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Answer:<\/strong> “I felt very nervous and my stomach was full of butterflies.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Q: How long have you been dancing there?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

A:<\/strong> “Since June or July of 2019.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Q: How long have you been dancing for?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

A:<\/strong> “I have been dancing since I was four years old.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Q: What kind of dance do you perform? <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

A:<\/strong> “I did a ballet solo, a musical theater duet, a lyrical trio, and a contemporary group dance.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Q: What type of awards did you win?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

A:<\/strong> “I got mediocre awards.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Q: How many pieces did you perform?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n

A:<\/strong> “I danced in four dances.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A:<\/strong> “Yes.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A:<\/strong> “This was my first competition ever.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A:<\/strong> “Yes, I\u2019m very glad I did this. I feel like this is a good experience for me.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Q: Did you do the dance down? If so, how did it go?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

A:<\/strong> “Yes and I lost during the first round.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ninth-Grader Alyssa Woolcott<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Q: How did you feel going into the competition? <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

A:<\/strong> “I felt pretty good and pretty confident.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Q: What kind of dance do you perform? <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

A:<\/strong> “I performed a jazz solo, musical theater duet, lyrical and contemporary group dance.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Q: How long have you been dancing there?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

A: <\/strong>“Six years, well, since it opened.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Q: What type of awards did you win?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

A:<\/strong> “Encore and bravo. We also got a judges award.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Q: How many pieces did you perform?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

A:<\/strong> “A solo, a duet and a group dance.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Q: Was it scary? <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

A:<\/strong> “The group dance was, yes. We wore white creepy masks and the group dance was called ‘In the Shadows.'”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Q: How many competitions have you done?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

A:<\/strong> “We just had our first competition this year.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Q: Did you enjoy your experience?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

A: <\/strong>“Yes it was so much fun. I love dancing with everyone and my friends. It was a great experience.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Q: Did you do the dance off? If so, how did it go?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

A:<\/strong> “I did, it was a lot of fun, I made it to the first round.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
