The game was scheduled for 4 p.m. The girls were ready to play, but the referees didn’t show until 5 p.m. The teams and fans were thankful that referees came from Junction City so that the match could continue, especially because Marshfield had traveled so far.

Elmira earned the win, outscoring the Pirates 7-3. Sophomore Ailea Hogue scored two goals, one in each half. Ninth-grader Layla Smith scored five goals. Throughout the game, the Falcons played tough defense, and they controlled the ball well up and down the field. Both Elmira and Marshfield played a hard-fought game.

Support the Lady Falcons at their next home game, scheduled for 4 p.m. Oct. 11 at Marist in Eugene.

Layla Smith dribbles the ball with Iris Frome, center, and Riley Peeler ready for a pass.
