(Photo by Naomi Pew \/ Falcon News)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-drop-cap\">The Elmira high school cheer team is working hard to prepare for competitions this season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This year&#8217;s team consists of 12 girls: senior Alexis Keeney, juniors Abby Taubr and Annalyse Gilliam, and sophomores Teardyn Bell, Shavelle Cook, Elleana Galaviz, Johanna Larsen, Parker Lusk, Emiree Marhenke, Kadence Marvin, Aubree Rogers and Kylee Young-Villa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The team is led by cheer captains Keeney and Cook, and is coached by Mandy Storey and Rebecca Dube, with assistant coach Bailey Wilkinson.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Storey is proud of the team and the season they have had.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt has been a great season so far,&#8221; Storey told Falcon News. &#8220;These cheerleaders have stepped up their game and are taking this year more seriously.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The whole team has been very positive about the season.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ehsfalconnews.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/teamseniornight.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-16067\" style=\"width:458px;height:auto\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.ehsfalconnews.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/teamseniornight.jpg 640w, http:\/\/www.ehsfalconnews.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/teamseniornight-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.ehsfalconnews.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/teamseniornight-570x428.jpg 570w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The cheer team with senior Alexis Keeney celebrating senior night. (Contributed photo)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s actually going really well,\u201d Cook said. \u201cWe\u2019re closer as a team than we were last year.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Her fellow captain agreed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe season is going pretty good,\u201d Keeney said. &#8220;It&#8217;s just harder now since we&#8217;re going into competitions.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This season the team primarily cheered at home football games, traveling to one away game at Harrisburg.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For the winter sports season, the team will be cheering at basketball games.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe will be cheering for as many Varsity home games as we can,\u201d Storey said. \u201cHowever, we are also preparing for competitions and that is our priority.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Storey hopes that the student section will be there cheering on the basketball teams when the cheerleaders are unable to due to competitions or practice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After being in conversation for a couple of years, the team will do competitions this season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The cheerleaders were able to connect with an Oregon Cheerleading Coaches Association coach and choreographer at a cheerleading camp they attended during the summer.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe brought her in to teach a 2 day clinic on stunting and another 2 day intensive session to learn a competition routine,\u201d&nbsp;Storey said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The team captains are feeling a lot of emotions now that they are finally going into competitions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;[I&#8217;m] feeling like, really nervous,&#8221; Keeney told Falcon News, &#8220;but I know we&#8217;re gonna get it.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;m really excited to do it and that I think we&#8217;re gonna do great,&#8221; Cook said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The rest of the team also have no doubt in the team&#8217;s ability to perform well at competitions this coming year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;The season is definitely harder than last year now that we are heading into competitions,&#8221; Galaviz said. \u201c[But] everyone is getting along with each other and happy to be on the Elmira cheer team.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The cheerleaders are continuing to work hard to ensure a great performance when competitions come.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe are all working very hard to nail down our routine both at practice and at home,&#8221; Larsen told Falcon News.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The first competition will be Jan. 4 at the Springfield Invitational at Springfield High School.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They will have one more in January before going on to have two more in February.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery alignwide has-nested-images columns-default is-cropped wp-block-gallery-1 is-layout-flex wp-block-gallery-is-layout-flex\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"720\" height=\"960\" data-id=\"16065\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ehsfalconnews.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/hoco-float.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-16065\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.ehsfalconnews.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/hoco-float.jpg 720w, http:\/\/www.ehsfalconnews.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/hoco-float-225x300.jpg 225w, http:\/\/www.ehsfalconnews.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/hoco-float-570x760.jpg 570w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 720px) 100vw, 720px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Cheerleaders with their float for the Homecoming parade.
