Last Saturday, the Elmira varsity volleyball team competed in a tournament in Seaside, where the Lady Falcons played well and won their bracket.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The tournament started at 8:30 a.m. with pool play. Elmira first faced off against Tillamook. The Falcons fell short and started the morning with a loss. Next, the Falcons played Cascade and lost, but returned with a victory when the girls played Clatskanie. The team was fired up after the first victory of the season and kept the energy going throughout the afternoon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bracket play started at 2:30 p.m., The Falcons were matched with Seaside. It was a back-and-forth game. EHS won the first set, lost the second set, but pushed through and won the third, winning their second game in a row.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Falcons defeated Estacada next and then were set to play Rainier for the championship game. The Falcons started off strong, winning the first set 25-11. The second set was a different story. though. Rainier came ahead and Elmira lost it 17-25. It came down to the third set.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201dWhoever has the most energy is going to win,” EHS coach Greg Haffner said. “We have the same amount right now. Let ours be stronger.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They knew they had to be the team with the most energy to win the game. The set started off a little rocky for the girls, with the Falcons behind 0-5. Haffner called for a timeout and said, “We have a long drive home. Let’s drive home with a win.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Both teams really wanted to win, and points were traded back and forth, but the Lady Falcons came out on top with a well-deserved win. The Falcons won four games in a row to earn first in the bracket.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“I think we did pretty good in how we started working as a team,” senior Kassidy Roe said. “We did a lot of talking, including the bench and the people on the court.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Elmira received a trophy for its accomplishment. It’s on display in the school’s front office.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was a great weekend for the volleyball team, with team bonding on Friday and the wins on Saturday. That all led to a great ride back home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Elmira varsity volleyball team would like to thank the Booster Club for letting the players stay in a hotel Friday night. That allowed the team to have great team bonding and more energy when game time came, which was a big factor in the bracket win.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
