(Derek French photo)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>As the only Falcon to qualify for the OSAA state cross-country meet, Elmira High School junior Jude Carman ran in the 5,000-meter race at Lane Community College on Nov. 4.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;My training before state\u00a0was pretty easygoing compared to the whole rest of the season,&#8221; he said. &#8220;I did a track workout but mostly only 45-ish-minute runs.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Carman said previewing the course helped him prepare for the race. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;I mentally\u00a0prepared for the race by visualizing where and how I would run in the race,&#8221; he said. <\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"533\" height=\"617\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ehsfalconnews.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/jude-running-at-stayton.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-11010\" style=\"width:289px;height:auto\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.ehsfalconnews.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/jude-running-at-stayton.jpg 533w, http:\/\/www.ehsfalconnews.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/jude-running-at-stayton-259x300.jpg 259w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 533px) 100vw, 533px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Senior Jude Spencer competes at the Stayton Invitational. (Derek French photo) <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>Carman ran 17.58.2 in the state meet, placing 33 among 87 other competitors. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;I was able to still be under 18 minutes and ran my third-best time,&#8221; he said. &#8220;It was heavily raining for about half of my race, and there was mud and there were hills, so getting 33rd and running my third-best time is pretty good.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Senior Jude Spencer, who competed for Elmira for the past two years, finished his final season as a Falcon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;I was very happy with my performance this year,&#8221; Spencer said. &#8220;The season was a lot of fun and I did really well.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the 5,000-meter this season, he set his all-time PR of 20.41 after beating last year&#8217;s PR by more than a minute.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said he plans to continue running during the track season, competing in the 1,500- and 800-meter races.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In reflecting on his last cross-country season, Spencer said the team dinners were among his favorite memories.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Just getting to hang out with the team and eat good food was always fun,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He also recalled pre-race rituals with his teammates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;The team would always play &#8216;Among Us&#8217; on the bus rides to the meets, which was always a good time,&#8221; Spencer said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Junior Jude Carman competes at state; senior Jude Spencer reflects on his final season<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":64,"featured_media":11051,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[4],"tags":[],"class_list":{"0":"post-10967","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-sports","8":"czr-hentry"},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"http:\/\/www.ehsfalconnews.org\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/10967","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"http:\/\/www.ehsfalconnews.org\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"http:\/\/www.ehsfalconnews.org\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/www.ehsfalconnews.org\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/64"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/www.ehsfalconnews.org\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=10967"}],"version-history":[{"count":14,"href":"http:\/\/www.ehsfalconnews.org\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/10967\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":11124,"href":"http:\/\/www.ehsfalconnews.org\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/10967\/revisions\/11124"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/www.ehsfalconnews.org\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/11051"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"http:\/\/www.ehsfalconnews.org\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=10967"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/www.ehsfalconnews.org\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=10967"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/www.ehsfalconnews.org\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=10967"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
