Testing day is coming up Wednesday for all Elmira High School students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
All students will spend the day in their homerooms. Each grade will their own tests: ninth-graders are taking the Pre-ACT 8\/9, sophomores the Pre-ACT, juniors the PSAT and seniors the SAT.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
EHS counselor Court Wirth shared some of the benefits of taking the tests, including that for the SAT, scores can be used for many four-year colleges, as well as at Lane Community College and other colleges for course replacement. Scores also can be used for some scholarship applications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Juniors taking the PSAT will be eligible for the NMSQT (National Merit Scholarship) program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIf a student scored high enough, they could be recognized as a commended scholar or semi-finalist recipient, and eligible for Merit Scholarship awards,\u201d Wirth said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
For sophomores, Wirth said taking the Pre-ACT will help them feel more comfortable with standardized testing. It’s also good preparation for the PSAT, SAT or ACT.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“These tests open up future opportunities for students’ futures when having to demonstrate what we\u2019ve learned such as teachers, doctors, lawyers, but also apprenticeship and CTE programs or other paths that may require various testing,” Wirth said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
